Today in Severe Weather History for August 14

On this date in 1987, one of the worst flash flood events in the history of Chicago brought parts of the city to a halt.  Over 9 inches of rain fell in 12-18 hours at O'Hare Airport, crushing the previous 24 hour record of 6 inches.  Flooding over the following week caused over $250 million in damage.
