NASA Releases First 360 Degree Image of the Sun

The photo comes courtesy of NASA's twin STEREO (Solar TErrestrial RElations Observatory) spacecraft.  In order to capture the image, the two spacecraft had to be aligned at exactly opposite positions on either side of the sun - at the exact same moment.

Researchers believe that the ability to see the whole sun, front to back, will allow us to better understand complicated solar "weather" patterns and plan for future missions throughout the solar system.
