The above image shows the updated severe weather outlook issued by the SPC at midday. The high risk (pink shading) area was expanded slightly to the Northeast, to include the Memphis area. The enhanced risk (red shading) area was expanded slightly to the Southwest, and now includes the Ft. Worth area. Otherwise the outlook remains unchanged.
Thunderstorms are expected to develop by mid to late afternoon across portions of southcentral or southeast Oklahoma and northcentral or northeast Texas. This activity will rapidly become severe and move East/Northeast into adjacent portions of Arkansas and Louisiana during the remainder of the evening hours, and reach portions of the Tennessee Valley and Deep South overnight.
Large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes are likely with this activity. Isolated strong, damaging tornadoes are also possible, particularly in the red and pink shaded areas on the map above.
Residents across the region should remain alert this afternoon, evening and into tonight. Review severe weather safety procedures and be prepared to seek shelter if threatening weather approaches your area.
