In Preparation for Irene - Stash Some Meds and Cash...

Irene has the potential to cause widespread power outages across a significant portion of the Eastern U.S. later this week. From the Carolinas through Washington, New York City and into New England, it would be wise to begin making preparations now.

A couple of often overlooked preparedness tips:  Medication:  If you have to take prescription (or over the counter) medication on a regular basis, try and get a refill before the storm hits.

Money:  If the power is out, ATMs and point of sale equipment will be down (this equipment can also be affected by telephone lines being downed, etc.).  If you don't normally keep any cash on hand, it wouldn't be a bad idea to take out some emergency funds and keep them in a safe place during the storm.

I'm working on an updated post concerning Hurricane Preparedness Tips and will have that out later this evening or tomorrow morning.  In the meantime, you can go to this post for additional suggestions and tips specific to Tropical Storms and Hurricanes.   To learn more about creating a severe weather safety kit (which is very much applicable to a hurricane situation), go to this post.
