Meanwhile...Dust Bowl Days Out West...


Strong, West winds of 35-45 mph with gusts over 60 mph are causing widespread blowing dust across eastern New Mexico and West Texas today. The above image was just shared on twitter by Lindsay Kennedy, and show near brown-out conditions on the Texas Tech campus at this hour.

The image below shows wind gusts in mph as of the 12 Noon CST weather observations within a 300 mile radius centered on Lubbock TX (click to enlarge):


If you look closely, you can also see a large dust cloud advancing Eastward on visible satellite imagery:

Dusty and very windy conditions will continue across the region throughout the afternoon, with extremely high fire danger as well.  A variety of Dust Storm, Red Flag and High Wind Warnings are currently in effect across most of the region:
