Severe Weather Threat for the Lone Star State Late Tuesday / Tuesday Night...


The latest severe weather outlook from the SPC in Norman, OK for late Tuesday and Tuesday Night is shown above. Severe thunderstorms are forecast within the areas shaded in yellow, which includes the Austin-San Antonio corridor region.  Large hail, damaging wind gusts and very heavy rainfall will be the primary severe weather threats, however a few isolated tornadoes also cannot be ruled out.

A strong upper-level storm system currently moving into the southwest U.S. will move into Texas on Tuesday and Tuesday night.  Low-level moisture and instability will return Northward into the state tonight and Tuesday on strengthening Southerly surface winds.  

Thunderstorms may develop in West Texas as early as late Tuesday afternoon or evening, but the greatest threat will take place Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Large hail and damaging surface wind gusts will be the primary threats, however isolated tornadoes will also be a possibility with some of the stronger and/or more organized storms.  The greatest tornado threat will reside East of I-35 on Tuesday night and early Wednesday.

Very heavy rainfall will also accompany this system, with widespread amounts of 2-4 inches likely from late Tuesday through midday Wednesday:
