Nice Depiction of Hurricane Ernesto's Eye on the Belize Radar


Above is the latest radar image from the site near Belize City. You can see a well defined eye at the center of Hurricane Ernesto, which as of 4pm CDT was located 140 miles East of Chetumal, Mexico.

Below is the same image and I've circled the area of the eye in red in case you had trouble spotting it above:


Maximum sustained winds are 80 mph, and Ernesto is moving toward the West/Northwest at 15 mph.  Based on the latest position and track, the center of Ernesto is likely to make landfall along the Mexican coast about 55 miles North of Chetumal later tonight / early Wednesday morning.  This position is about 135 miles South/Southwest of Cancun.

Tropical storm force winds currently extend outward about 140 miles from the center, and hurricane force winds extend outward about 35 miles from the center.  The images below show the distribution of tropical storm and hurricane force wind probabilities, respectively:
